Tim Hortons has made significant advancements to reduce their overall impact and thereby become a more ethical and sustainable brand. The Canadian fast food chain - known for its donuts, coffee, and fast food items, has now slowly penetrated into various parts of the U.S. In recent years, Tims has invested in better packaging, proper waste management systems, and higher animal welfare standards. In an attempt to reduce their environmental impact, a majority of locations have incorporated compostable packaging into their restaurants. At the start of the year itself, a significant switch from plastic to fibre cutlery and lids (for bowls / cups) was made. Additionally, many locations have introduced recycling bins to encourage customers to dispose of their waste properly. With coffee being an integral component of their sales, Tims has established partnerships with organizations like Rainforest Alliance to source coffee beans that meet higher social, environmental, and economic standards. This ensures that their products come from farms that follow sustainable practices while simultaneously prioritizing the well-being of workers. It is clear that Tim Hortons currently has a strong plan in motion. However, given the size of the organization, customer base, and influence on society, there is always more that can be done to help create change on a larger scale.
